Psychological counseling is a professional help process by experts for the individual to understand himself, gain awareness, define his problems and produce solutions, make decisions, be in harmony and healthy communication with his environment, and improve himself. The person who provides this help service is called the psychological counselor, and the person who receives the help service is called the client.

The job description of the counselor, one of the main responsibilities of which is to provide psychotherapy, differs according to the person he counsels. The general job description of professional professionals can be grouped under the following headings;

  • Listening to the people who consult him and asking questions,
  • Helping to draw a complete picture of the client's life and the reason for seeking treatment, using different assessment tools such as observational techniques and case histories.
  • To evaluate all the biological, psychological, physical and social problems of the client as a whole,
  • Creating a treatment plan for the client based on the results of the psychological assessment,
  • Explaining the treatment plan to the client,
  • Applying cognitive therapy that focuses on confronting or challenging false thoughts, suggesting other ways of seeing situations to the client.
  • Conducting family therapy by holding discussion and problem-solving sessions with the individual and other family members to help the person understand that changing their behavior can ultimately lead to changes in how they feel. with the client's permission, seek the opinion of a psychologist, physician, psychiatrist, or educator
  • Applying behavior therapy to help the person understand that changing their behavior can ultimately lead to changes in how they feel.
  • Performing family therapy by organizing discussion and problem-solving sessions with the individual and other family members,
  • Seeking the opinion of a psychologist, physician, psychiatrist, or educator, with the client's permission, to discuss problems experienced in a case or to obtain information and advice on specific treatment methods.
