What is Audiology?

Audiology is a branch of science that determines the events experienced by individuals with balance problems and hearing loss, and also provides treatment and rehabilitation. Audiology specialist is also known as hearing disorders specialist (audiologist).

Audiologists:

  • They perform auditory perception assessment and rehabilitation.
  • They take part in hearing screening programs and do the tests in these programs.
  • They work to protect hearing health and prevent hearing loss.
  • They make necessary suggestions about the protection of hearing by making noise measurements.
  • During surgical procedures, if the surgeon deems it necessary, they perform nerve monitoring related to hearing and balance.
  •  In devices implanted in the ear (cochlear implant), they make device adjustments during and after surgery.
  • In the diagnosis of diseases related to hearing and balance, they determine, select and program the devices to be used for the diagnosis and rehabilitation of the hearing and the rehabilitation with the cooperation of the specialist physician.
