What is metabolic surgery?

Metabolic Surgery is an effective method in the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Metabolic surgery, also known as diabetes or diabetes surgery among the people, actually means the treatment of metabolic syndrome, which manifests itself with obesity, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol and hypertension, with various surgical methods. Metabolic syndrome is an extremely serious condition that can lead to death by causing organ damage and cardiovascular diseases, as well as interfering with the daily life of the person if not treated. It needs to be diagnosed early and treated quickly. Metabolic surgery, which has an extremely high success rate, is the first method to be applied in such a case.

How is Metabolic Surgery Performed?

Metabolic surgery is a treatment method with closed surgery. Surgery is performed by means of tools sent through several holes in the body. During the application of metabolic surgery, no deep incision is made on the patient. Although the duration of the surgical operation varies, it is between 1-3 hours on average. Patients who are under observation in the hospital for about 3-4 days after the surgery can return to their normal lives after this period. Some of the operations of metabolic surgery that have different types of surgery are:

  • Gastricby-pass
  • Minigastric bypass
  • sleevegastechnomy
  • duodenalswitch
  • Transit Bipartition
  • ileal interposition

Does this treatment method have side effects?

The risks of metabolic surgery are not more than other surgeries. For example, the risk of a gallbladder surgery and a Metabolic Surgery is almost the same. The risk of these surgeries is much lower than the long-term risks of diabetes. The most important point here is that the patient is operated by a surgeon who is experienced in these operations and in a fully equipped center that can deal with the problems that may arise.
