Medical biochemistry unit is a specialty unit that does not accept patients directly, in other words, it is also known as clinical biochemistry department. Biochemistry is the science that studies the chemical substances in the structures of all living things in the form of plants, animals and microorganisms and the chemical processes that go on throughout the life of living things.

They are responsible for the laboratory examination of the samples necessary for the prevention of diseases, the determination of the factors affecting the formation of the disease, the health evaluation of the patients, the consideration of the course of the disease, the prediction of the recovery rates, the diagnosis of the diseases and the follow-up of the treatment.

Central Biochemistry Laboratory in Hospitals is the unit where the tests requested in the urine, blood, CSF and other body fluids of the patients who are hospitalized and under surveillance in the outpatient clinic are studied; clinical chemistry analyzers, modular hormone analyzers, fully automatic coagulometers are used. Biochemistry Laboratories is the unit where outpatient urine and stool materials are accepted and capillary glucose measurement is made; fully automatic urine analyzer, urine microscopy analyzer and binocular microscope.

What is a Biochemistry Specialist?

Biochemists analyze and evaluate sample fluids taken from blood, urine and intra-body cavities for the purpose of diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of many diseases in the human body. They provide the storage of medical devices, chemicals and materials in the laboratory.

What Do Biochemists Do?

The most important task of biochemists is to analyze the fluids taken from the body cavities along with blood or urine. It has duties such as conveying the results to the relevant department, especially through their analysis and evaluation. In addition, the work of biochemists is not limited to this.

Apart from the reliable performance and interpretation of the examinations and tests under his responsibility, his general responsibilities are:

  • Evaluating, checking, reporting, confirming the patient test results, and ensuring that the tests that are found to be incompatible are repeated,
  • To ensure the daily and weekly maintenance and cleaning of the devices used in the biochemistry laboratory,
  • Organizing and auditing trainings in order to increase the knowledge and skills of the personnel working with,
  • To exchange opinions about patient test results with other doctors and team members,
  • To closely monitor developments in the profession, to attend symposiums and seminars,
  • Arranging the shifts and leaves of the personnel working in the laboratory,
  • Performing laboratory tests manually when necessary,
  • To perform the working and measurement quality controls of the tests,
  • To follow the order and operation of the unit.
