Forensic medicine is the department of medicine that provides the necessary evidence and information to the law in case of legal disputes involving medical data or undetected criminal acts. It supports the courts by preparing reports on evidence. Injury, murder, suicide, sexual assault, assault, etc. Forensic medicine is used more frequently in cases involving crimes.

The perpetrator, victim, evidence or any individual affected (such as witnessing) of any crime or legal dispute may be the subject of a forensic report. As evidence, they can examine many biological materials (such as hair, blood, saliva, sexual fluids, body parts, corpses) or countless items belonging to individuals, such as fingerprints, footprints, personal belongings, tools.

Unlike other departments of medicine, forensic medicine provides services not only in hospitals but also in institutions such as the Forensic Medicine Institute or Forensic Medicine Institute. These institutions have functions such as acting as an expert in courts and advancing and developing forensic sciences. Forensic medicine departments of universities, unlike institutions, also respond to individual expert witness and report applications.

Forensic Medicine can prepare reports for the following situations;

  • Autopsy
  • Dead inspection
  • Violence/abuse examination against children
  • Examination of violent events such as injury, assault
  • Sexual assault examination
  • Psychological status examination
