The smallest whole in the society, which consists of individuals such as spouses, children, siblings or even grandparents, who have marriage or blood ties between the family, is the building block of the society.

Family Counseling focuses on the problems experienced by family members and the solution of these problems, in short, on the relations of family members with each other. Family Counselor, on the other hand, is the person who provides counseling services to the family, aiming to solve the mental and emotional problems that may be experienced in a family.

In order to become a Family Counselor, it is necessary to graduate with a bachelor's degree from the departments of psychological counseling, psychology, sociology, social work and guidance, nursing, child development and medicine, which provide four-year education.

Family Counseling certificate programs of various universities and educational institutions are also available.

A good family counselor should have the following skills;

  • To behave in accordance with professional ethics,
  • Effective communication skills,
  • Ability to identify and solve complex problems
  • Ability to cope with stressful and emotional situations
  • Persuasion skill,
  • Enhanced observation skill and ability to pay attention to detail.
